Quality Management: The Art of Playing Devil's Advocate

Jan Frandsen, the Quality Manager at Aquaporin, has a job that revolves around asking many tough questions that Aquaporin customers may have. This ensures that Aquaporin's products live up to the customers’ and our standards and meet every requirement from a product and regulatory standpoint.

In Quality Management, it is essential to have transparency, an open dialogue, and unheard-of attention to detail.

"We are constantly evaluating, improving, and building on quality management. We have to ask the hard-hitting questions that our customers will ask to know we have everything in place. It is a way for us to ensure that we are constantly getting better than we were yesterday."

Creating excellent quality management is like crafting a symphony. Each instrument—the processes, standards, and people—plays a crucial role. The conductor, akin to effective leadership, guides the ensemble toward harmonious performance. Precision, continuous improvement, and attention to detail compose the score. And when executed flawlessly, the result resonates throughout the organization, leaving a lasting impression on both creators and listeners.

For Jan Frandsen, the finetuning consists of developing models, adjusting processes, and involving different stakeholders.

"There is always room for improvement in every process, and we are committed to maintaining the highest standards within our product lines."

A crucial part of Jan Frandsen's work is ensuring that Aquaporin remains certified and follows the ISO 9001 standard, a well-recognized international standard that helps to specify requirements for a quality management system and ensures that products and services always meet high-quality standards and customer requirements.

Streamlining the process

At Aquaporin, Quality Management is also one of the key stakeholders in developing new projects. A strong eye for quality control and risk assessment is an important skill for a Quality Manager.

"When I am working, I ensure that every detail is available and correct, which helps us in our decision-making and ensures our validation processes are on point," says Jan Frandsen.

"Products at Aquaporin are continuously evolving and improving. A solid change management process and project plan ensure that all changes align with the required standards.

Imagine that you want to replace your house doors, and they have always had the exact measurements, but suddenly, they become one inch bigger in every direction without anyone knowing. Jan Frandsen and the Quality team ensure that problems like that will not happen within the Aquaporin product portfolio.

Rome was not built in a day

The age-old expression signifies that outstanding achievements are not accomplished at a record speed, but result from a continuous commitment to excellence, and that they are a product of the planning and patience required.

"At Aquaporin, we have a solid foundation, and we are continuing to add new layers to ensure we cover a project from A to Z. Sometimes finding the needle in a haystack is a daunting task, but when we find it, we succeed in our mission; to provide the best possible solution to our customers," says Jan Frandsen.

At Aquaporin, we are committed to our customers as they are the ones who determine our success, and to us, having someone playing the devil's advocate is an important means of achieving long-term growth.
