10 Jul Singapore is increasing its waste water reuse
SINGAPORE IS INCREASING ITS WASTE WATER REUSE
Darco Water Technologies ltd., Singapore and Aquaporin A/S, Denmark have initiated a joint pilot project of forward osmosis waste water treatment using Aquaporin InsideTM forward osmosis membrane elements in waste water treatment processes. Focus of the pilot project is waste water streams from the multi-billion dollar semiconductor industry.
The pilot project builds upon a successful proof-of-principle study conducted jointly between Darco Water Technologies Ltd. and Aquaporin Asia, a Singapore-based subsidiary of Aquaporin A/S, under Aquaporin Asia’s IRIS project 1301-IRIS-02 Aquaporin Based Biomimetic Forward Osmosis Membranes: from lab scale production of membranes to pilot scale production and industrial test bedding of membrane modules”, which is supported by the Singapore National Research Foundation (NRF) under its Environment & Water Research Programme and administered by PUB, Singapore’s National Water Agency.
Entering this pilot agreement is a step closer to reducing waste water streams in Singapore, by increasing waste water reuse in closed loop processes, where forward osmosis helps to close a technology gap.
Thomas Christian Beck, Chief Operating Officer of Aquaporin A/S, stated: “We are very excited to take this next step in further proving our Aquaporin InsideTM products together with Darco. We see Darco as a very capable and innovative development partner. This is an important project for us in the fast-growing water industry in Singapore.”
Connecting innovation and experience
The new collaboration between Darco Water Technologies Ltd and Aquaporin A/S is based on Darco’s long experience in designing and operating water treatment systems and Aquaporin’s biomimetic membrane technology base. Both parties seek to increase the investments to take the technology faster to market.
