LAUNCH OF NEW AQUAPORIN INSIDE™ PRODUCT
The development of a hollow fiber elements coated with aquaporin proteins took off after the first testing of The Aquaporin Inside™ Forward Osmosis Technology at NASA Ames laboratories in California in October 2011.
The ambition was to extract water from body fluids in space, thus improving water reuse under the extreme conditions faced by astronauts. During 2015 and 2016 Aquaporin’s hollow fiber elements have been on the International Space Station twice for further testing of body fluids and condensate water.
The use of forward osmosis technologies on planet Earth has been progressing over the past 5-10 years with multiple companies seeking to scale up and commercialize various usages of the technology. Aquaporin A/S is now ready with a new 2.3 m2 membrane element for usage in a wide range of applications.

Today Aquaporin A/S launches its first commercial forward osmosis element ideal for high quality concentration of natural ingredients and reuse of industrial waste water.
About the new Aquaporin Inside™ Hollow Fiber Element, HFFO2
The new Aquaporin Inside™ FO product is – among others – developed for extraction of water in the food and beverage industries, including concentration of natural colors, coffee, whey proteins, etc. The food and beverage industry is of high commercial interest because of increasing consumer demand for natural products and high quality ingredients.
Another application area of specific interest is reduction of difficult waste water streams. With the unique features of the Aquaporin Inside™ forward osmosis technology, it is possible to extract water from difficult waste water, resulting in increased amounts of clean water for reuse while maintaining operational stability.
The size of the element makes it ideal customers to substantiate and verify the commercial viability of applying forward osmosis in industrial water treatment applications.
