NOBEL PRIZE LAUREATE PETER AGRE, MD. VISITS AQUAPORIN A/S HEADQUARTERS
Aquaporin A/S had the honor of Nobel prize Laureate Peter Agre, MD (left) and Professor & MD Søren Nielsen (right), visiting our headquarters just last week.
It was a great inspirational visit by the very person who discovered the protein – Aquaporin – from which we have developed our membrane technology.
In connection with his visit to Aalborg University, giving a lecture in “From physiology to diplomacy and human rights”, Peter Agre, Bloomberg Distinguished Professor, Johns Hopkins University, USA, was accompanied by Professor Søren Nielsen from Aalborg University, and both were shown around Aquaporin A/S facilities in Kongens Lyngby, Denmark.
CTO Claus Hélix-Nielsen, Ph.D. says: “Søren Nielsen and Peter Agre have had a very close and fruitful collaboration since 1991. They have pioneered efforts to uncover the medical significance of aquaporins in a range of tissues and organs including the kidney, heart, central nervous system and in metabolic diseases. Peter’s fundamental discovery of the aquaporin protein and Søren’s internationally acclaimed research in the regulation of the body’s water and salt balances is very inspiring for our work developing new technologies based on the use of aquaporin proteins”.
Peter Agre and Søren Nielsen’s visit is a recognition of the technology and growth that Aquaporin A/S has achieved and continues to achieve in revolutionizing the industrial biotechnological arena.
